About The Position

This position involves instructing and coaching students in basketball. The coach will assist in arranging playing schedules and perform all associated coaching responsibilities. Attendance at required meetings and trainings is mandatory.

Requirements

Possess a valid CA teaching credential (preference given to current OUSD employees).
Fundamentals of Coaching (HIGH SCHOOL) certification.
Middle School Coaching certification.
Concussion in Sports certification (expires every 3 years).
Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification (expires every 2 years).
Heat Illness Prevention certification (expires every 2 years).
CPR & FIRST AID certification from an instructor-led class (expires every 2 years).
Provide written evidence indicating knowledge of the coaching theory and techniques in the sport (e.g., college coursework, prior coaching experience, prior participation at high school level, or in-service training).
Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level.
Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation.
Knowledge, skill and ability sufficient to maintain high standards of safety in all aspects of coaching at practices as well as contests.
Demonstrated high ethical standards related to sportsmanship, fair play and relationships with students.
Recognition of the need to communicate with parents/guardians and appropriate school staff members regarding problems or emergencies.
Knowledge of school policies and California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) policies related to athletics.
Ability to meet the standards for the district’s athletic program, including instilling teamwork, commitment, and discipline.
Ability to develop positive relations and support from parents and the community.
Ability to offer academic encouragement and support to students.
