About The Position

This position is for an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Mazama High School. The coach will be responsible for assisting in the development and execution of the basketball program, focusing on student safety, athletic performance, and sportsmanship. The role requires adherence to all district and state regulations, effective communication with staff, athletes, and parents, and a commitment to representing the school and team professionally.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must complete all OSAA and Klamath County School District required trainings and certifications.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid Training Certificates.
  • Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations.
  • Awareness of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets.
  • Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens).

  • Assures that all necessary steps are taken to prevent injuries and has adequate training and/or trained assistants to deal with the care of injuries that may occur.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all OSAA and Klamath County School District required trainings and certifications.
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid Training Certificates.
  • Ensure student safety and security.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and arrange for proper issuance and cleaning of equipment.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment in usable and safe condition, reporting areas in need of attention to the supervisor.
  • Keep staff informed of duties at practices and contests.
  • Set up well-organized practice schedules adhering to district and state policy and regulations.
  • Maintain good communication with the entire coaching staff.
  • Maintain good communication with media.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to district and school philosophy and policies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely eligibility reports, inventories, budgets, rosters, and accident/injury reports, insurance documentation and physical exam validations.
  • Supervise assistant coaches (where applicable) regarding their responsibilities, administration, coaching performance, and professional qualities.
  • Supervise athletes regarding practice and game responsibilities, rules, strategy, goals, and risks inherent with their sport.
  • Ensure all teams represent their school with conduct and appearance beyond reproach.
  • Instill a playing style and attitude that causes teams to actively seek success.
  • Emphasize the importance of good scholarship and sportsmanship, following up on individual progress and providing assistance.
  • Represent the team and school in a professional manner.
  • Work to resolve differences with officials, scorekeepers, staff, other coaches, parents, and audience members constructively.
