About The Position

This position is for a Boys Basketball Assistant Coach for the season running from October to December at Cañon City Middle School. The stipend is based on the Supplemental Salary Schedule, position, and years of experience, with a potential starting range of $1,896-$3,037. All coaching assignments are one-year contracts.

Requirements

Must be a certified teacher or administrator holding a current certificate issued by the Colorado Department of Education; OR
Employed as a teacher, counselor, and/or administrator at least 50% of the school day in a private school; OR
A registered volunteer with Cañon City Schools.

Responsibilities

Develop good rapport with numerous individuals and community groups, including team personnel, the student body, faculty, administration, maintenance staff, the community, spectators, officials, fellow coaches, media representatives, and parents.
Cooperate with the school athletic director, administration, other staff, team, and parents in executing duties.
Exhibit diligence, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty, and a love for the game.
Maintain exemplary personal appearance, dress, physical condition, and public demeanor that reflects positively on the coach, team, athletic department, school, and community.
Implement discipline among coaches, players, and support staff, serving as a model of program representation by observing school codes, rules of the game, ideals of good sportsmanship, and participant behavior.
Emphasize the desire to do well, win gracefully, and lose with poise and a positive attitude.
Motivate staff, players, and spectators to achieve established goals.
Constantly take advantage of opportunities for self-improvement, including attending district meetings, rules clinics, workshops, and training opportunities.
Maintain membership in professional organizations and coaches' associations.
Stay informed about current literature in professional journals, newspapers, and magazines, and utilize enrichment material from other media forms.
Use sound and acceptable teaching practices.
Run well-organized practice sessions.
Complete pre-season planning well in advance of the starting date.
Adhere to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention.
Follow a prescribed routine for injuries and maintain good communication with the patient, trainer, and parents.
Construct a well-organized game plan.
Develop a sound system for equipment accountability.
Keep assistant coaches, volunteers, student managers, and statisticians well-informed.
Cooperate fully with building staff, other programs, media, support staff, and administration.
Cooperate fully with maintenance staff, transportation, and others involved in support of the program.
Promote and teach ethical, aggressive, and fair play while stressing good sportsmanship.
Teach skills and techniques pertinent to the sport and model and monitor behavior and academics continually.
Aid in the development of the overall person, being fair, unprejudiced, and sensitive to individual differences, needs, interests, temperaments, attitudes, and tolerances.
Create confidence in the coach, the school, and the district through actions.
Owe the school maximal effort and loyalty, striving for excellence throughout the program, department, and school.
Treat faculty, staff, and the student body with dignity and respect.
Give support to all endorsed activities of the school.
Urge the student body to be polite, courteous, and fair to all people involved in a contest.
Maintain a high level of discipline and expectations, being firm, fair, and consistent in enforcing them.
Continue professional growth in both academic teaching and athletic coaching areas.
Participate in professional growth opportunities whenever possible.
Encourage independent thought by assistant coaches and maintain open lines of communication for idea exchange.
Discuss disagreements with fellow coaches privately and promptly.
Contribute a full measure of time, effort, thought, and energy to the program.
Communicate expectations clearly in advance of the season.
Value and praise assistant coaches appropriately for their contributions.
Have a strong sense of allegiance to the program and be willing to perform tasks that may not be preferred.
Fulfill responsibilities to the head coach, athletes, and the sport.
Support, promote, and cooperate with all other coaches and activity sponsors for the well-being of the total athletic program.
Communicate regularly about athletes and off-season schedules to allow athletes to participate in a variety of activities.
Support and cooperate with other coaches whenever possible.
Reflect confidence in fellow coaches in all remarks.
Maintain strong, harmonious interpersonal relationships among coaches and other faculty members.
Cooperate with every faculty member, including allowing athletes to make up tests or homework during practice time.
Keep the practice area and locker rooms in order.
Store equipment and use equipment properly.
Keep locker rooms and storage areas locked.
File proper maintenance requests for large items in need.
Exhibit pride in equipment and facilities.
