About The Position

This is a student employment opportunity at the Boys and Girls Club in Wallingford, part of the Office of Community Engagement. The role is funded through Federal Work-Study and involves working with youth during afterschool program hours.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in an afterschool program, summer camp, or similar environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • A genuine passion for youth development and a commitment to making a positive impact on young lives.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and neatness in assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must have available time to work between 3:00 PM and 6:20 PM, Monday through Friday.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR Certification if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee assigned group of youth, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
  • Assist students with homework, projects, and academic challenges, implementing a reward system for achievements.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver youth development programs and special events, utilizing Boys & Girls Clubs of America resources.
  • Integrate video games to enhance problem-solving, teamwork, digital literacy, and safety.
  • Build meaningful connections with youth members, serving as a positive role model and providing mentorship.
  • Apply effective strategies for behavior management, de-escalation, positive reinforcement, active listening, and conflict resolution.
  • Maintain regular communication with Club staff regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, maintaining accurate attendance records and following check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Equip youth with knowledge and skills for safe technology navigation and critical evaluation of online information.
  • Participate in all required training and certifications.
