About The Position

Position Type: On-Call Box Truck Driver Pay Range: $18.00 - $19.00 DOE Work Schedule: Flexible schedule with variable start times This position is on-call, with at least part-time hours consistently. Start times will be 6:00 AM or later depending on the needs of the day. In addition, it may include night runs or weekends for hot shot deliveries from Bakersfield to LAX, SMF, OAK and other surrounding areas when needed. At least one (1) year of box truck driving experience is needed to qualify for this position. California Sierra Express has been serving the air freight logistics industry for over 35 years. We operate six freight terminals in CA and one in Reno, NV. We're an overnight carrier serving international and domestic freight forwarders as a final mile Pick-Up and Delivery agent for shipments that travel around the globe. You'll be joining a small local team committed to providing the best service possible to our customers who trust Cal Sierra to move their shipments on-time throughout Bakersfield and the surrounding area.

Requirements

  • Valid Class C Drivers License.
  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Minimum of one (1) year commercial driving experience.
  • Clean DMV record (no serious moving violations in the past 5 years)
  • Valid DOT Medical Card or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English; verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT and FMCSA laws and regulations, preferred.
  • Hazardous materials (HAZMAT) certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Flexible schedule and available when needed.
  • Practice defensive driving principles and follow all company safety policies.
  • Comply with all laws and regulations relating to driving, transporting and handling of freight including those issued by but limited to The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Comply with truck and cargo security requirements as outlined by the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA).
  • Comply with safe work practices as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)
  • Comply with federal drug and alcohol regulations.
