Box Truck Driver

About The Position

Safely and promptly transports materials and finished goods between company plants, customers or vendor locations. Transports loads of raw materials and finished parts between plants and customer or vendors using straight truck. Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition. Understands and completes necessary company documentation, including but not limited to Bills of Lading, customer documentation, shipping documentation, inspection records, etc. Communicates professionally and develops rapport with internal and external customers. Maintains DOT compliance with qualifications required and communicates any changes. Verifies truck is secured in dock or loading/unloading areas at plants or other locations. Uses proper safety devices such as chocks, locks or stabilizer jacks prior to entering or allowing others to enter the trailer. May load and unload trucks using a forklift in a safe manner. May help out in other areas of the plant. Regular attendance and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Is consistently at work and on time.
  • High school degree or relevant diploma preferred but not required.
  • Previous professional driving experience preferred but not required.
  • A clean driving record is required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents related to the transportation process.
  • Above average communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Average computer skills to be able to open, use and print documents in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
