About The Position

This is an on-call backup role supporting both Box Truck (CDL Class B) and Transfer Driver operations. This role is responsible for the timely, accurate, and safe transportation of auto parts between Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse (EAPW) locations and customer facilities. The Driver must be adaptable, safety-focused, and available to cover scheduled routes, call-offs, peak volume days, and operational needs. This position requires availability on short notice and the ability to step into different driving assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to meet Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • Valid Class B CDL with a clean motor vehicle record (required for box truck coverage)
  • Current Medical Certification Card or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to pass DOT physical, pre-employment, and random drug screenings
  • CDL Class B driving experience with 4+ years of straight truck route delivery preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for all company vehicles
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and handle difficult situations professionally
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
  • Flexible availability and willingness to be on-call is an essential job requirement
  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent experience considered
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Pushing/pulling up to 2,000 lbs
  • Frequent grasping, holding, and securing of products
  • Use of foot pedals and vehicle controls
  • Ability to walk, sit, and stand for 8–10 hours per day
  • Ability to climb steps and access vehicle equipment
  • Hearing and vision adequate for safe vehicle operation

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles (box trucks and transfer vehicles) to complete deliveries and pickups on assigned routes
  • Serve as on-call coverage for both distribution and inter-company transfer routes
  • Load and unload vehicles efficiently and accurately using hand carts, lift gates, and pallet jacks
  • Complete deliveries and transfers according to established schedules and dispatcher instructions
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain driver logs and required documentation
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance checks (fluids, tires, cleanliness) and report any safety or operational concerns
  • Utilize electronic dispatching and routing software accurately
  • Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, supervisors, coworkers, and customers
  • Collect returns and follow proper handling and documentation procedures
  • Adhere to all EAPW policies, safety standards, DOT regulations, and substance abuse prevention policies
  • Attend quarterly Driver Safety Meetings
  • Support EAPW’s vision, mission, and core values in all activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Distribution Center Manager or EAPW leadership
