About The Position

The Hammer Theatre is seeking a Box Office Supervisor to oversee box office operations, including ticketing, customer service, financial reporting, event support, and the hiring, training, and scheduling of student assistants.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Ability to interface with clients, patrons, and colleagues in a professional, collegial manner
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate, coordinate, and execute optimal customer service initiatives. Expected to maintain, monitor and guide ongoing ticket seller training
  • Demonstrates ability to persuasively and effectively communicate in writing, in person, by telephone or by email with external and internal customers
  • Demonstrates an ability to effectively listen, speak, and interact in a tactful and persuasive manner in both a work and public setting.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Prioritizes and sets deadlines for one’s own work
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of box office ticketing systems, preferably VBO (Virtual Box Office)
  • Experience with event management software such as VenueOps, When I Work
  • Experience in cash handling
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to sell tickets from an online, cloud based ticketing system, either in person or over the phone
  • Knowledge of performing arts venues front-of-house operations
  • Completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents
  • Three (3) years of related office work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree in performing arts, hospitality or business
  • One (1) to Three (3) years’ experience working in a presenting or university theatre environment
  • Experience with VBO ticketing system

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and mentor student box office assistants
  • Build and maintain ticketing for events
  • Oversee ticket inventory and sales
  • Respond to patron inquiries by phone, email, online, and in person
  • Establish customer service standards focused on a high-quality, inclusive guest experience and ADA compliance
  • Reconcile ticket sales and oversee cash handling and deposits
  • Serve as a liaison with clients and event stakeholders
  • Provide on-site box office supervision for events
  • Coordinate staffing and event coverage
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support smooth event operations
