About The Position

The Botanical Garden Horticulturist is responsible for hands-on maintenance assisting the Horticulture Supervisor of the assigned garden area. These duties include planting, mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, spraying, pruning, trimming, etc.

Requirements

• A Strong desire to learn additional horticulture practices and procedures.
• The ability to use shovels, trowels, rakes, shears, saws, loppers, wheelbarrows, garden carts, ladders, and other hand tools effectively.
• The ability to operate push mowers, riding mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, push blowers, and other power equipment effectively.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of one year experience or vocational training in horticulture or related field
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Provide basic care, daily maintenance, repairs, and improvements of assigned garden areas.
• Conduct and record fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide applications under supervision.
• Work with a wide variety of hand tools and landscape power equipment.
• Keep gardens clean by removing leaves, branches, and other debris.
• Physically work in all aspects of maintenance including soil prep, planting, transplanting, mulching, watering, weeding, fertilizing, pruning, mowing, raking, blowing, etc.
• Monitor gardens and plant collections for pests and diseases. Report pest and disease problems to supervisor.
