A Bookseller is an integral member of a Barnes & Noble bookstore team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find appropriate books and products. The role also supports the attractive presentation and efficient operation of the store by unpacking and shelving deliveries, maintaining displays, and serving customers at the register. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility when scheduling gaps arise, a positive and energetic approach, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, willingness to learn, and enjoyment of bookselling. Booksellers are trained to use store technology, develop merchandising and visual presentation skills, operate registers, receive and shelve deliveries accurately, locate products using available resources, support the café team when needed, and follow loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. The job involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As they gain experience, Booksellers build knowledge across books and other store categories, maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, assist customers, and support sales objectives and new releases. The role is a step in a career path that may advance to Senior Bookseller as the employee develops and demonstrates the required skills. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures. Benefits vary according to scheduled weekly hours and location. Benefits may include employee discounts, EAP, sick pay, paid time off, paid maternity and parental leave, company-paid holidays, transit benefits, 401(k) with company match, health benefits, spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement, subject to the current plan terms.
