A Bookseller is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable books and products. The role also supports the bookstore’s daily operations by maintaining attractive, clean displays, unpacking and shelving deliveries, and operating registers to provide professional customer service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility when scheduling gaps arise, a positive and energetic approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and willingness to learn. They are trained to use store technology; maintain book, gifting, toy, and other product displays; operate registers; receive and shelve deliveries; locate products using available resources; support the café team when needed; and follow loss-prevention procedures and de-escalation practices. The position involves physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may work at other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. As they gain experience, they build knowledge across books and other store categories, maintain sections and backstock, recommend books, and help support sales priorities and new releases. Booksellers who master the role’s skills are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures.
