About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the school in compliance with state laws, regulations, and local policies. The Bookkeeper/Accountant will keep the principal informed of all school accounts and perform various financial and clerical duties to support the school's operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth financial management of the school and adherence to all financial regulations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of prior bookkeeping experience, preferred.
  • Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
  • Proficiency in technology programs such as Google and Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of microcomputers to include: spreadsheet, database and word processing applications.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to perform the clerical duties required at the school.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information obtained in the course of work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
  • Must submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

  • Associate degree, preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Desire and ability to engage in continuing education and skills upgrading.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a complete and systematic set of records for all financial transactions of the system.
  • Record details of school financial transactions on a computerized accounting system.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Complete daily cash deposits.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Assist in preparing the annual school budget, including athletics and other school-sponsored clubs.
  • Manage athletic ticket sales and reconciliation reports.
  • Prepare and maintain payroll records.
  • Trace errors and record adjustments to correct charges or credits posted to incorrect accounts.
  • Responsible for inventory control.
  • Act as support when the secretary is unable to fulfill duties.
