About The Position

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (Boilermaker/Pipefitter), Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is primarily responsible for maintenance of fixed equipment in the refinery including blinding, mechanical repair, replacement, fabrication, alteration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance; fixed equipment assets including piping systems, valves, heat exchangers, filters, boilers, furnaces, towers, reactors, pressure vessels, tanks, structural systems, etc. This position utilizes various hand and power tools, specialty tools, rigging equipment, mobile equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). This position is on a 4/10 work schedule.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Transportation Workers' Identification Credential (TWIC) or qualify for a TWIC card by start date. More information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
  • 5 or more years of heavy industrial experience in a qualified craft (pipefitter, steamfitter, boilermaker, or industrial maintenance mechanic)
  • Must be willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
  • Work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)
  • Be on call and respond to after hour callouts due to business necessity
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
  • Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights
  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
  • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)
  • Maintain facial hair daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (clean shaven); employee should have experience working while in supplied air in confined spaces
  • Work outside in inclement weather conditions
  • Read, follow, and understand (in English) schematics, drawings, Material reqs and P&ID's
  • Qualify and join the refinery hazmat team and attend quarterly training
  • Remove basic insulation
  • Respond to unit upsets, weather events, and/or process leaks in emergency conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Journey level certification in a qualified craft (pipefitter, steamfitter, boilermaker, or industrial maintenance mechanic) from a registered apprenticeship program OR NCCER 4 level training program OR equivalent technical degree
  • 5 years or more years of refinery maintenance experience working in a journey level qualified craft (pipefitter, steamfitter, boilermaker, or industrial maintenance mechanic)
  • Experience with SAP, MS Office, and other CMMS systems
  • Experience working while in supplied air and elevated PPE
  • Knowledge of mechanical principals including basic rigging techniques, materials, and methods of construction, bolted joint assembly, torque requirements, proper use of hand and power tools, measurements, and mobile equipment operation
  • Knowledge of basic shop mathematics and material dimensions including pipe sizes and schedules and positive material identification
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, procedures, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, as well as create isometric and plan view sketches for assembly

Responsibilities

  • Follow all Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex's safe practices, procedures, engineering standards, specifications, and regulations
  • Communicate all safety concerns and incidents to supervision immediately
  • Communicate work status, findings, and improvement opportunities to supervision
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) including identifying specific hazards and applying proper mitigations
  • Operate mobile equipment including forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, etc.
  • Operate hand and power tools including but not limited to wrenches, torque guns, flange spreaders, overhead hoists, lifting devices, tubing benders, saws, grinders, beveling tools, pipe threaders, cutting torches, rod out devices, hydro pumps, etc.
  • Provide basic examination, troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance of fixed equipment assets including work requiring the use of elevated PPE such as chemical, firefighting suits, and supplied air respirators
  • Blind and unblind equipment and processes to support maintenance and operational needs
  • Remove, clean, repair, replace, and install fixed equipment major components including but not limited to heat exchanger bundles, fin tube bundles, storage tanks, silos, reactors, tower internals, piping systems, structural systems, etc.
  • Remove, clean, repair, replace, and install auxiliary equipment including but not limited to sight glasses, valves, strainers, filters, PSVs, swing gates, etc.
  • Perform assembly and disassembly of bolted joints on piping and flanged connections on heat exchangers, process piping systems, utilities, etc. using proper gaskets, bolting, gasket surface preparation, and torque specifications
  • Lay out, measure, calculate, cut, prep, fit for welder, assemble, and install pipe according to isometric drawings or technical specifications
  • Measure, cut, and thread pipe to specifications, using pipe threaders and benders
  • Install process tubing systems to specifications using measurements, benders, and appropriate fittings
  • Read and understand P&IDs, isometric drawings, and construction drawings
  • Inspect rigging devices, and use proper rigging techniques and crane signaling to support, lift, or lower equipment safely
  • Test, replace, and repair steam tracing and steam traps
  • Clear plugged piping using mechanical rod out devices
  • Perform hydrostatic testing of piping and equipment per specification
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management to the level of training of the individual to maintain continuous asset operation
