About The Position

Tessera is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Boiler Technician with a positive attitude. This role involves performing routine maintenance on boiler equipment and systems, maintaining various types of boilers (low-pressure, high-pressure, power, steam, hot water heating systems), and addressing any problems with boiler systems and repairing them as needed. The technician will also be responsible for plumbing tasks, including maintaining, repairing, installing, inspecting, removing, replacing, and modifying plumbing equipment and components for various systems. This includes clearing drain lines, adjusting/repairing leaky joints, installing/repairing hot water heaters and plumbing fixtures, operating and maintaining tools, and assisting with preventive maintenance on plumbing systems. A strong understanding of code requirements, manufacturer specifications, and proper installation techniques is essential. The role also requires maintaining preventive maintenance and repair records and reading/understanding drawings and maps.

Requirements

  • Must have a good knowledge of commercial plumbing and be able to use hand tools, power tools, and appliances required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures and pipes.
  • Municipality of Anchorage boiler operator license required.
  • State of Alaska boiler operator license required (Must be Fireman or Apprentice level boiler operator license).
  • Alaska certificate of fitness required.
  • Must have a knowledge of plumbing codes.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.

  • Third, Second, or First-Class boiler operator license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on boiler equipment and systems.
  • Maintain low-pressure boilers, high-pressure boilers, power boilers, steam boilers, or hot water heating systems.
  • Replace defective valves, filters, or steam gauges.
  • Monitor the boiler system to ensure it is operating safely and properly; facilitate periodic boiler cleaning.
  • Test water systems and treat the water with chemicals as needed.
  • Maintain and update required records for boiler operations.
  • Address any problems with boiler systems and repair as needed.
  • Contact the supervisor concerning potentially dangerous equipment or safety violations.
  • Clean and maintain mechanical rooms as needed.
  • Maintain, repair, install, inspect, remove, replace, and modify all plumbing equipment and components for water, sewer, swimming pools, inert gas, natural gas, air vacuum, compressed air systems, steam, and POL equipment.
  • Remove blockage from drain lines, both interior and exterior sewers within 5 feet of the building, floor drains, fan coil units, air handling units, stacks, vents, and storm drainage systems.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace leaky joints, faucets, and other outlets as necessary to maintain proper and efficient operation of all related plumbing and steam fitting systems including, but not limited to, hot water systems, chilled water systems, potable water systems, compressed and vacuum air systems, valves, inert and natural gas systems, and other associated systems, equipment, and components.
  • Install and repair domestic, industrial, and commercial hot water heaters, hot water storage tanks and plumbing fixtures, equipment, and components, including commodes, urinals, kitchen and utility sinks, water fountains, frost-proof hydrants, showers, bathtubs, lavatories, shower pans, garbage disposals, dishwashers, fan and air handler coils, valves, pumps, and associated equipment and components.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain required tools and special equipment.
  • Install or replace and connect water, air, natural gas, sewage, and water/storm fixtures such as sewage lines, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, gas heaters, stoves, air compressor equipment, shop hydraulic vehicle lifts, cooling towers, grease traps, garbage disposals, dishwashers, floor drains, condensate and drip pans, circulation systems for heating and cooling systems, and associated equipment and components.
  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance and repair records.
  • Read and understand drawings, work plans, and maps.
