About The Position

The Boiler & Refrigeration Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the facility’s boiler (steam) and ammonia refrigeration systems in accordance with state licensing requirements. This role ensures the reliable delivery of critical utilities—including steam, chilled water, and refrigeration—to support continuous potato processing operations. The position plays a key role in maintaining production uptime, product quality, and food safety while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards, ammonia refrigeration regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minium requirement is 2 years experience
  • Hold a High-Pressure (HP) Permit or HP License, with the ability to obtain a Maine Class 4 Stationary Steam Engineer License
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately read gauges and record data
  • Basic understanding of safety practices including PPE, LOTO, and hazard communication
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to noise, steam, and varying temperatures
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliable attendance with flexibility to work extended hours or holidays as needed
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting (25–55 lbs.), extended standing, walking, bending, and climbing

  • Basic awareness of Process Safety Management (PSM) and OSHA regulations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor boiler and ammonia refrigeration systems, including startup, shutdown, and adjustments to maintain optimal performance
  • Monitor gauges, pressures, temperatures, and water levels to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Complete routine rounds, inspections, and detailed operational logs each shift
  • Adjust controls and maintain boiler chemistry to ensure proper water quality and system efficiency
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing components
  • Troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues and support timely resolution
  • Monitor water treatment systems and add chemicals as needed to prevent scaling or corrosion
  • Respond to alarms, malfunctions, and emergencies to mitigate risk and restore operations
  • Maintain accurate records of system performance, maintenance activities, and incidents
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to ensure continuous, reliable operations and compliance with safety and GMP standards
