About The Position

The Boiler Plant Operator will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the boiler plant at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. This is a 1-year contract position with the possibility of extension, requiring 24/7 coverage across three shifts. The role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of multi-fuel boilers, maintaining steam pressure and temperature, and performing necessary tests and minor repairs.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Boiler Plant Operator
• Experience in commercial or hospital settings
• Certified Boiler Plant Operator license/certification
• Operation of multi-fuel water-tube/fire-tube boilers
• Combustion control adjustment
• Gas/fuel-oil switching
• Boiler water chemistry testing/treatment

Responsibilities

• Start, regulate, and secure boilers
• Maintain steam pressure and temperature
• Test and document boiler water chemistry
• Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on valves, pumps, burners, and feedwater/condensate systems
• Respond to boiler/steam alarms and after-hours trouble calls
• Interpret manuals, directives, and regulations and apply them to full plant operation
