About The Position

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a talented Boiler Plant Mechanic supporting construction operations within a local Naval facility. SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

Requirements

  • In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is a requirement for this position.
  • Valid Boiler Operator License (MD, VA, or DC) or certification through ASOPE or NIULPE required.
  • Journeyman-level knowledge of steam and hot water boiler systems, including mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of boiler management systems (manual, electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls).
  • Proven experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing boiler plant systems and auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiarity with pollution control systems, including baghouses and electrostatic precipitators.
  • Working knowledge of boiler water treatment systems and chemical feed processes.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic and testing equipment, including combustion analyzers, pressure gauges, thermal imaging devices, and electrical testing tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair motors, relays, solenoids, limit switches, thermostats, aquastats, and variable speed controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance and operate safely in industrial environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound technical decisions.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and around mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, and turbines.
  • Physically able to perform demanding labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted and more with assistance.
  • Ability to work in harsh environments, including high heat, noise, chemicals, grease, and fumes.
  • Capable of prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, and crouching.
  • OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety certification required prior to start (or as contractually specified).
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair complex power boiler systems and associated components operating under critical tolerances and conditions.
  • Troubleshoot and service single- and multi-fuel boilers (oil, gas, coal, wood, RDF, tire chips) and supporting systems in steam and hot water plants.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary and pollution control equipment, including water treatment systems, electrostatic precipitators, baghouses, ash handling systems, and wet scrubbers.
  • Monitor, test, and analyze boiler system performance to identify malfunctions in controls, valves, pumps, piping, and related components.
  • Inspect, adjust, repair, or replace mechanical and control components such as thermostats, regulators, switches, burners, flame safeguard systems, bearings, and drive assemblies.
  • Service and overhaul burner assemblies, including nozzles, orifices, ignition systems, filters, and strainers.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment including boiler feed pumps, fuel systems, compressors, turbines, generators, and combustion air systems.
  • Align, balance, and maintain rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors, and generators.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, pneumatic, and limited electronic control systems, including burner management systems and automated controls.
  • Conduct major system overhauls, including repair/replacement of boiler tubes, refractory linings, and control systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic and testing instruments such as combustion analyzers, manometers, draft gauges, infrared/thermal imaging devices, pyrometers, and flow meters.
  • Maintain and service hydraulic systems, fuel and gas lines, safety valves, pressure vessels, and coal/ash handling equipment.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and control schematics to support installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Plan and execute maintenance and repair work independently, making technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and environmental regulations when working with high-temperature systems, chemicals, and moving machinery.
  • Perform work in confined spaces and industrial plant environments as required.
