About The Position

The Boiler Operator inspects, cleans, fires and adjusts boilers to maintain generation of a continuous supply of steam. Inspects, cleans, fires and adjusts boilers to maintain a continuous supply of steam for heating hospital buildings, and supplying power to machinery and auxiliary equipment for laundry and sterilizing equipment. Tours boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specified instructions. Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunctions, notifies watch engineer when major repairs are needed. Re-orders proper amounts of fuel as required. Uses specified chemical tests and treating boiler water. Cleans insides of boilers, boiler tubes and boiler stacks to remove sludge and soot. Performs minor repairs to steam plant equipment. Controls valves for the flow of water, fuel, oil, etc. Responds as appropriate to Hospital emergencies. This is a full time position located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the operation of steam boiler plant
  • Must be available for weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, emergencies and scheduled work/outages
  • Must adhere to and follow shift coverage procedures
  • FDNY G-91 Supervision of Natural Gas Co-generation System within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY A-35 Air Compressors within 6 months of hire
  • FDNY P-98 Fuel Oil Piping and Bulk Storage within 6 months of hire
