About The Position

The State of Utah Labor Commission has a vacant Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector position open in the Boiler, Elevator, and Coal Mine Safety Division. This position offers full medical, dental, and vision insurance from day one, 12 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave accrual, and much more! You will be required to come to the office your first day, then will be assigned a state vehicle which is equipped with your virtual office. This position requires frequent in-state travel, occasional meetings at the office, and will be scheduled to work four, 10-hour days per week. As the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector you will be responsible for jurisdictional inspection of boilers and pressure vessels for compliance. Due to the minimal supervision of the position, we need a self-starter with high integrity. You will be required to pass the National Board examination within 6 months of being hired. This position also requires frequent in-state travel and the use of a state vehicle which is equipped with a virtual office. Once certified, this is not an office job.

Requirements

  • Must pass the National Board examination within 6 months of being hired.
  • Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
  • The ability to deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • The ability to operate applicable safety equipment.
  • The ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of agency, professional and/or industry standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures.
  • The ability to speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally; English fluency.
  • The ability to plan, organize and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.
  • Knowledge of testing and/or examination methodologies.
  • The ability to speak before a group of people.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history check.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • An engineering or technical degree, US Navy Engineering schooling, Boiler & Machinery insurance experience, and/or experience as a National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector for an authorized inspection agency.
  • Combined education and experience in the operation, inspection, or repair of boilers/pressure vessels, as required, to take the National Board examination.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and conducting inspections and/or investigations.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
  • Providing consultation, making recommendations, giving appropriate advice, and/or facilitating decisions.
  • Analyzing, summarizing and/or reviewing data; reporting findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations.
  • Maintaining detailed inspection or investigation records, preparing reports, and attending to other related administrative requirements.
  • Jurisdictional inspection of boilers and pressure vessels for compliance.
