About The Position

The Body Shop Painter is responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces, mixing and matching paint colors, applying primers and topcoats, and ensuring a seamless finish. This role involves meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and effective communication with customers regarding color and finish requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong color‑matching ability and knowledge of paint systems (waterborne and solvent‑based).
  • Proficiency with spray‑gun operation and surface preparation.
  • Ability to identify and correct paint defects.
  • Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and good color vision.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and environmental compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school training in collision repair or refinishing.
  • ASE B2 certification.
  • I‑CAR Refinish certification.
  • Manufacturer‑specific paint system training.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vehicle surfaces: cleaning, sanding, masking, spot filling, and applying corrosion protection.
  • Mix and match paint colors using spectrophotometers, manufacturer databases, and manual blending.
  • Apply primers, basecoats, mid‑coats, metallics, pearls, and clearcoats using HVLP/LVLP spray guns.
  • Blend paint into adjacent panels for seamless color transitions.
  • Inspect painted surfaces for defects (runs, orange peel, fisheyes) and correct them via sanding, buffing, and polishing.
  • Maintain spray guns, mixing equipment, and paint booths.
  • Follow environmental, VOC, and hazardous‑material safety regulations.
  • Keep records of materials used and work performed; communicate with customers on color/finish requirements.
