The Board Operator is responsible for running the control board during live or recorded news and/or brokered radio programs. This includes playing music, features, billboards, and commercials. The role also involves operating and troubleshooting radio equipment, ensuring technical perfection, and managing audio levels. The operator must follow program logs, monitor all systems for on-schedule performance, and update severe weather forecasts. In emergency situations, the operator may need to go on-air to report critical information. Additionally, the role includes recording, editing, and playing back sound, voicing and producing news stories, answering and screening phone calls, monitoring automation and transmitter controls, and assessing emergency situations for the station. A thorough understanding of FCC rules and regulations is required. The position demands punctuality, adherence to schedule, and flexibility to work alternate hours, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with little or no notice. Other duties as requested will also be part of the role.
