About The Position

The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is seeking 4-5 new board members to join their board. Board members play a crucial role in maintaining the organization's operations and shaping its strategic direction. The EAC has a long history of environmental advocacy in Nova Scotia and is looking for individuals to help guide its path for the next 50 years. The organization values a collaborative, caring, creative, and innovative approach, and is committed to diversity, justice, equity, and inclusion. This is a volunteer position with a time commitment of approximately 30 hours per year, including four 2-hour board meetings, key events like the Annual General Meeting and an organization-wide retreat, and participation in a board or operational committee. The term length is three years with the option for a second term.

Requirements

• Experience with board governance
• Experience with financial management
• Experience with senior leadership
• Experience with community work including with non-profits, community groups, small businesses, etc.
• Experience acting as an organizational champion and/or supporting fundraising
• A collaborative approach
• A caring approach

• An innovative approach
• Familiarity with the Ecology Action Centre and an interest in its future
• Commitment to justice, equity and inclusion
• An interest in the environment and community resilience
• An interest and expertise in institutional strategic thinking
• A system-level approach (addressing systemic issues with systemic thinking)

Responsibilities

• Keep the institutional lights on at the EAC.
• Help shape the direction of the organization.
• Participate in four 2-hour board meetings per year.
• Attend key events such as the Annual General Meeting.
• Participate in a day-long organization-wide retreat.
• Participate on one of the board committees (Governance, Audit & Risk, Nominations) or an operational committee (e.g. Justice Equity Diversity & Inclusion).
