About The Position

Boreal Veterinary Centre in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a third surgeon to join their expanding surgery department. This is an opportunity to join an established and thriving specialty and emergency practice with a collaborative culture. The hospital is designed for innovation and excellence, featuring 3 fully equipped surgical suites, CT imaging, fluoroscopy, an Arthrex scope tower (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and arthroscopy), and an advanced in-house laboratory. The successful candidate will join two board-certified surgeons, specialists in Internal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Anesthesia, Cardiology, and Oncology. The practice also has 24/7 Emergency DVMs to support overnight cases and highly skilled Registered Veterinary Technologists experienced in advanced perioperative care and anesthesia. The role involves managing a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic cases (neurology cases are optional), collaborating with other departments, and mentoring veterinary staff. Requirements

  • Diplomate status (ACVS/ECVS) or completion of a residency in small animal surgery and ability to write board examination.
  • Proficiency in soft tissue and/or orthopedic procedures.
  • A collaborative, team-first mindset with strong communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for mentorship, innovation, and patient-centered care.
  • A positive attitude and dedication to continual learning.

Responsibilities

  • Support and grow the surgical caseload alongside colleagues.
  • Manage a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic cases (as well as neurology cases if desired).
  • Collaborate with other departments for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Share knowledge to mentor veterinary staff.
  • Teach summer students, final year veterinary students, and interns.
