About The Position

Connecticut prioritizes appointing highly qualified residents who reflect the state’s great diversity to its critically important boards and commissions. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is committed to an open, robust, and inclusive process for these appointments, welcoming applications from any member of the public. This posting allows interested individuals to express their interest in serving on various DEEP-related boards, commissions, and councils for which DEEP has direct appointment authority or may refer applications to the relevant appointing authority. Applications will be reviewed when vacancies arise, and DEEP may request additional information. Some boards have ethics and conflict of interest policies. This recruitment is refreshed every three months to allow applicants to update their materials or express new interests. DEEP will retain all applications.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the distribution of the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF) to support energy efficiency programs and initiatives.
  • Conduct independent evaluations of CEEF-funded residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs.
  • Provide information and input to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA).
  • Assist the executive and legislative branches of state government with the formulation of policies and legislation to advance energy efficiency in Connecticut.
  • Advise the DEEP Commissioner on current and historic environmental injustice, pollution reduction, energy equity, climate change mitigation and resiliency, health disparities, and racial inequality.
  • Provide guidance on meaningful public participation and how the agency can implement environmental justice considerations across DEEP's programs, policies, and activities.
  • Set rebate levels and determine income eligibility requirements for Connecticut residents who purchase or lease new or used hydrogen vehicles or electric vehicles.
  • Evaluate the CHEAPR Program each year.
  • Advise the Commissioner on the design, production, and procurement of the Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation Stamp and the expenditure of funds generated from the sale of each stamp and associated art products.
  • Advise the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection in carrying out the protected Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program and the Recreation and Natural Heritage Trust Program.
  • Advise the Commissioner on the development and maintenance of the West Rock Ridge conservation area.
