Role Overview: The BMV Field Auditor performs discovery audits to ensure records are accurate and valid and have adequate financial controls. You will prepare reports and recommendations for irregularies, discrepancies, and risks.

Requirements

  • Specialized knowledge of accounting and auditing methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of agency organization and function.
  • Working knowledge of agency rules, regulations, and procedures as they apply to governmental accounting and financial management.
  • Working knowledge of electronic data processing as applied to governmental accounting.
  • Ability to prepare concise and factual audit reports.
  • Ability to find irregularities in financial records and accounts.
  • Ability to analyze accounting problems and recommend changes to resolve those problems.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Audit financial records and accounts for arithmetic accuracy, documents validity and adequacy of financial controls.
  • Prepare reports of audit findings for review by supervisor.
  • Assist in the development of recommendations for the improvement of accounting methods and procedures.
  • Conduct routine inventory audits.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new or modified accounting methods and procedures.
  • Assist in the investigation of alleged irregularities in financial records and accounts.
