Under general supervision, provides emergency medical care and transport for the sick and injured. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, delivers Basic Life Support (BLS) care, and assists Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers in accordance with established medical protocols, policies, and procedures. The role requires sound clinical judgment, adherence to protocols, and the ability to function in high-stress environments. Actions and decisions have a direct impact on patient outcomes, public safety, and organizational liability. The position involves accurately documenting patient care information, maintaining records, and utilizing electronic patient care reporting systems. It also requires interacting professionally with patients, families, coworkers, hospital staff, and the general public, while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism. The provider is responsible for the proper use, care, and maintenance of ambulances, medical equipment, supplies, and assigned facilities to prevent loss and ensure operational readiness. Basic mathematical calculations related to vital signs, medication assistance, and patient assessment are necessary, as is the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including completing reports, understanding protocols, and communicating via radio and electronic systems. Independent and sound judgment is required in emergency situations with guidance from protocols and medical direction. The work involves high levels of complexity due to unpredictable emergency environments, requiring rapid assessment, decision-making, and adaptability. Errors may result in serious injury or death, damage to equipment, legal liability, or loss of public trust.
