About The Position

Stanford Blood Center is seeking a Blood Drive Bus Driver/Mobile Assistant to operate a self-contained mobile blood collection unit. This role involves driving to remote blood collection sites, setting up equipment, and assisting donors. The position also includes responsibilities such as maintaining the mobile unit, ordering supplies, transporting blood, and training new drivers. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a highly regulated, fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • 1+ year to 2 years Class B driving experience with valid license and verifiable good driving record Required
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated tact and courtesy required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50-75 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass color-blind and drug/alcohol screening tests.
  • CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State required Upon Hire
  • MEC - Medical Examiner's Certificate, Form MCSA-5876 required Upon Hire

  • 1+ year to 2 years Experience driving 50 foot vehicle Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate self-contained mobile blood collection unit, setting up at remote blood collection sites and returning to the Blood Center.
  • Act as Donor Room Assistant at mobile locations, including keeping confidential donor records, labeling blood bags, and heat sealing donor unit tubing.
  • Escort donors and assist with donors who have reactions.
  • Keep mobile units clean, operational, gassed, and containing adequate supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment to be ready for emergency dispatch.
  • Inventory and order supplies for mobile units.
  • Load, transport, assemble, and dismantle mobile equipment, medical supply boxes, and computers.
  • Rearrange existing furniture at mobile sites when necessary.
  • Ensure all equipment on mobile units is operational and report malfunctioning equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs of mobile vehicles.
  • Operate vehicles within the limits of the law.
  • Perform deliveries to and from the blood center to facilitate efficient operations.
  • Transport blood to the component laboratory, ensuring proper use of transport boxes/coolers and maintaining temperature quality control.
  • Prepare and distribute supplies and equipment for mobile and fixed site locations.
  • Complete other support activities related to blood collection areas as directed.
  • Train new drivers in all aspects of the job, including driving and Donor Room Assistant responsibilities.
  • Comply with safe and healthful work practices, government regulations, and Blood Center policies.
  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of donors, patients, and staff records.
  • Validate trip sheets to assure directions to mobile sites are clear and accurate.
  • Observe and support good health and safety practices.
  • Strictly observe privacy and security policies to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information.
  • Act as a responsible information steward and treat information as sensitive and confidential.
  • May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood, with potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
