About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking individuals to join their team as Blood Collection Staff with a focus on Customer Service. This role involves assisting with all aspects of the blood collection process, including transporting and setting up equipment at local community collection sites. The position requires creating a welcoming environment for volunteer donors and adhering to safety procedures during blood collection. The Red Cross offers paid phlebotomy training, providing an opportunity to develop healthcare skills and advance a career within the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must reside in one of the following cities in California: South East Los Angeles, Downey, Norwalk, Paramount, South Gate, and Pica Rivera.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.
  • Minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with donors, listen to their stories, and explain the impact of their donation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment for volunteer donors.
  • Ensure collected blood meets goals, regulatory requirements, and can be safely transfused through attention to detail.
  • Drive Red Cross vehicles and work with the team to set up and tear down equipment at donation sites.
  • Setup and tear down equipment required to conduct mobile blood drives.
