About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking individuals to join their team as Blood Collection Staff with a focus on customer service. This role involves assisting with the entire blood collection process, from transporting and setting up equipment at community sites to creating a welcoming environment for donors and ensuring safety protocols are followed during blood collection. The organization offers paid phlebotomy training, providing an opportunity to develop healthcare skills within a humanitarian organization. The position emphasizes connecting with donors, ensuring their comfort, and adhering to regulatory requirements for safe blood transfusion. Teamwork is crucial for setting up and dismantling equipment at mobile blood drives, which are conducted at various locations like businesses and schools. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, are also required.

Requirements

  • Reside in Northern New Jersey: Bergen, Union, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex & Warren county.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes.
  • Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to transport and set up equipment at blood collection sites in local communities.
  • Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors.
  • Follow all safety procedures during blood collection.
  • Collect lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.
  • Connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand the impact of their donation.
  • Ensure blood collected meets goals and regulatory requirements for safe transfusion.
  • Drive Red Cross vehicles (may require a minimum height of 60 inches).
  • Work with the team to set up and tear down equipment at donation sites.
  • Work a variable schedule which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform basic computer tasks, including using Microsoft Office applications.
