About The Position

This is a TEMPORARY, Full Time Day Shift role with some weekend hours potentially required, lasting from late summer through early 2027. The Blood Bank Technician/Inpatient Services Technician II is a hybrid position, involving part-time work with the blood donor program and part-time as an Inpatient Service Technician II in the Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and Supportive Care unit. As the in-house blood donor program grows, this role may transition to a full-time blood bank technician position. The blood bank technician will collaborate with the criticalist overseeing the blood donor program to recruit, schedule, and perform blood collections from cats and dogs. Responsibilities include processing blood into components, logging, and appropriate storage. The technician will also monitor blood product usage and make necessary purchases from external blood banks until the in-house program can meet all hospital needs. Strong communication skills are essential for client interaction during donations and for maintaining communication with outside blood banks regarding inventory. The Inpatient Services Technician II will assist clinicians in triaging, stabilizing, and providing high-quality nursing care to patients. This role also involves instructing veterinary students, interns, residents, and other technicians/assistants. Experience in emergency veterinary medicine and a desire for professional growth are important.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant.
  • Minimum of one year emergency critical care or anesthesia experience.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
