About The Position

The Blender Operator is responsible for charging hand adds to blenders, verifying lot numbers and weights of raw materials, and staging raw materials needed for finished product production. This role follows batch card instructions, reviews the production schedule, and adheres to written instructions to meet customer requirements. The operator will learn the Line 4 Blending area and may be asked to fill in on other jobs as needed. Key responsibilities include verifying TA item code numbers, recording lot numbers of staged materials, cleaning and inspecting blenders, preparing blenders for compound charges, and charging hand adds according to batch cards. The operator must report any procedural variations to supervision and document them on the batch card. This role also involves coordinating blender production with other operational areas, reviewing the production schedule, and ensuring products are properly packed, labeled, weighed, and sealed according to customer instructions. Any schedule, instruction, or potential problem must be reported to the Bagger Leadman. The operator is responsible for generating labels and affixing them correctly, performing timely and efficient changeovers of packaging equipment using required safety gear, and communicating with mill area operators after changeovers. Additionally, the operator prepares packaging materials for future shift requirements and scans/enters finished product information into the computer system. The role requires practicing good housekeeping, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), meeting plant key performance indicators, and participating in Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Able to read and comprehend English
  • Possess good math skills
  • Able to drive (or learn to drive) a forklift
  • Able to use an electric hand truck
  • Must be 18 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Charging hand adds to the blenders
  • Verifying lot numbers and weights of raw materials
  • Staging raw materials necessary to produce finished products
  • Following batch card instructions
  • Reviewing production schedule and following written instructions to customers’ requirements
  • Learning Line 4 Blending area or filling in on another job when needed
  • Verifying all TA item code numbers prior to charging the blender
  • Recording all lot numbers of staged materials on the batch card
  • Cleaning and inspecting the blender to ensure it is ready to accept the next compound charge
  • Staging necessary raw materials and preparing the blender to accept the next compound charge scheduled
  • Charging all hand adds to the blender as specified by the blender batch card
  • Reporting any variation from procedure to supervision and documenting this variation on the batch card
  • Coordinating blender production with other areas of operation
  • Ensuring all product is properly packed, labeled, weighed, and sealed
  • Generating labels and properly aligning and affixing these to the package container
  • Performing changeovers of the packaging equipment in a timely, efficient, clean manner with required safety equipment utilized
  • Communicating with mill area operators after changeover is completed
  • Preparing packaging materials to cover future shift schedule requirements (i.e. Gaylords, Supersacks, etc.)
  • Scanning / entering of finished product into the computer system
  • Practicing good housekeeping and wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Meeting or exceeding all plant key performance indicators
  • Participating in and helping sustain Lean Manufacturing initiatives
