About The Position

Under limited supervision, cleans, prepares, grit blasts, primes, and paints assigned parts and equipment by operating conventional spray equipment and PBC Autoblast System. This role involves discussing work orders, obtaining parts, preparing work pieces, operating specialized equipment, mixing and applying primer/paint, and ensuring proper coating application. The operator is also responsible for minor repairs on blast and prime booths, handling waste materials, managing inventory of paints and thinners, and painting various items for maintenance and spare parts. Additionally, the role may involve providing work direction to less experienced employees and operating a bar code scanner/computer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years’ experience with pressure feed power washers, spray guns, hand trucks, forklift, PBC Autoblast system, cranes and common hand tools
  • Familiarity with computer and the use of hand held scanners
  • Strong Attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Discusses/reviews work orders, prime specifications, parts and painting requirements with Lead to assure an awareness of job requirements and parts flow
  • Obtains parts or units to be painted and primed using forklift, crane or trucks
  • Prepares each work piece to ensure that no damage will occur while grit blasting and priming
  • Operates PBC Autoblast system to obtain desired finish on work pieces
  • Obtains primer/paint and mixes to proper consistency and viscosity
  • Assembles painting equipment and connects paint containers, insuring that pumps are properly cleaned and connected
  • Properly applies primer, using air assisted spray system to achieve desired/required finish
  • Continuously inspects blasted, primed and painted parts or units to ensure proper coating application and makes gun adjustments as required
  • Responsible for all minor repairs on blast and prime booths; repairs, cleans, reassembles spray guns and other related items
  • May provide work direction to lesser experienced department employees
  • Accumulates, inspects and labels waste materials by company and safety standards. Informs supervisor when drum is full for removal
  • Responsible for handling all fabricated parts, inventory on paints, thinners, reducers, hardeners and coal tar
  • Paints racks, trailers, fixtures, tables, pipeline, elbows, parts for maintenance and spare parts
  • Operates bar code scanner/computer
  • Other duties as assigned
