About The Position

The Birth Registrar manages the birth certificate process for all live births which occur in the facility along with any fetal deaths that occur on the unit as required by the Code of Virginia. Collect demographic and statistical data from worksheets & EPIC, and electronically submits to Vital Records. The Registrar researches each chart to ensure accuracy which meets with the requirements of NCHS/CDC. Monthly audits by the registrar are required and released to VDH relating to this documentation. Additional responsibilities: supports the DSS program to voluntarily acknowledge paternity for unmarried parents, educate these parents on their rights and responsibilities through interview, and audit such forms for accuracy to include notarization. Assists parents as needed in completing paternity papers. Reports all paternity documents weekly to the Virginia Paternity Establishment Program. Additionally, the registrar enrolls medical certifiers as the facility user administrator for fetal deaths to comply with requirements and deadlines set forth by VDH. Works with the decedent affairs department internally when a birth resulting in a death occurs on the unit. The Birth Registrar ensures that all reports (typed and submitted) are accurate based upon information obtained from worksheets and verified with the patient. Notarizes all required documents.
