About The Position

This position is responsible for the collection of all biotechnology samples for the genetic gain of pedigree chickens. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months, a point level
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds, utilizing 2 Team Members, to move items such as bird coops; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 250 pounds such as stacks of bird coops.
  • Regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
  • No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from Pedigree birds to monitor bird health and diseases (25%)
  • Cleans and sanitizes sampling and blood testing instruments (15%)
  • Perform simple math as part of recording information according to instructions for sampling of pedigree chickens (50%)
  • Move birds as required to other houses per house schedule
  • Clean and disinfect the equipment and vehicles used in moving birds, supplies, or equipment on the farm
  • Help laundry staff as needed
  • Properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
  • Off-farm shopping for supplies
  • May travel to various farms for training and implementation of procedures when studies are being done with duration of 1 week at a time may be expected (10%)
