About The Position

The Department of Biostatistics at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a Staff Biostatistician to support and advance St. Jude’s mission that no child dies in the dawn of life. This position is housed in the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) and provides opportunities to collaborate on a wide range of basic, translational, clinical and population-science research projects across the institution. The successful candidate will work closely with Biostatistics faculty, collaborating clinical, population and/or laboratory scientists in a multidisciplinary team science environment. The Biostatistician provides knowledge in statistical analysis to institutional staff interested in conducting clinical or experimental studies or to other researchers as designated by grant relationships. The Biostatistician progresses towards working independently with investigators. Some direct communication with investigators is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or related field.
  • 4+ years experience in biostatistics and/or epidemiological consulting and/or research (with Bachelor's degree).
  • Master's degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • PhD with no experience.
  • Experience in standard statistical and/or epidemiological methods, statistical software programming, and/or study design is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong foundation in statistical and data science methods, with experience in programming (e.g., R, SAS, Python).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical concepts and results to non‑statistical audience.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to adapt analytical approaches to different study designs, data types, and research questions.
  • Ability to learn and apply domain knowledge as needed for specific studies.
  • Interest in contributing to biostatistical education and training efforts (e.g., training sessions, workshops) for the broader research community.
  • Ability to coach colleagues and mentor junior staff biostatisticians.

Responsibilities

  • Apply appropriate statistical and data science methods to support a wide range of biomedical research projects.
  • Collaborate with Biostatistics faculty, clinicians, population scientists, and/or laboratory scientists to develop study objectives and analytic strategies.
  • Conduct analyses ranging from standard statistical workflows to more computationally intensive approaches, depending on project needs.
  • Contribute to abstracts, manuscripts, and other scholarly publications or reports.
  • Provide knowledge in statistical and/or epidemiological analysis to researchers conducting basic, translational, clinical, and/or population science studies designated by collaboration areas.
  • Perform data QA/QC, data management, programming for data preparation, and statistical and/or epidemiological analyses using standard statistical packages.
  • Perform standard statistical and/or epidemiological analysis, and prepare analysis reports including graphical and table presentations, descriptions of methods used, interpretation of analysis findings, and making valid inferences.
  • Work under limited guidance of a supervising faculty or designee.
  • Collaborate and consult independently with investigators as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
