About The Position
The BMET 1 is an entry-level position responsible for maintaining clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. The technician performs routine installation, maintenance, calibration, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on a limited scope of biomedical equipment to help ensure safe and reliable operation in healthcare settings. Work is performed under the guidance and direct supervision of an experienced healthcare technology management professional. Biomedical experience is not required; candidates with a strong foundation in electronics, troubleshooting, mechanical aptitude, and hands-on work may be trained. The technician is expected to demonstrate basic job knowledge and seek supervision or mentoring for advanced assignments.
Requirements
- Strong foundation in electronics, troubleshooting, and hands-on mechanical work.
- Biomedical electronics work experience or an associate's degree in a related field; experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Obtain Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) certification through the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) within one year.
- Basic knowledge of the job and ability to communicate how supported devices are used.
- Ability to maintain assigned medical equipment and work under supervision or mentoring on advanced assignments.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair assigned medical equipment.
- Perform routine installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a limited scope of biomedical equipment under direct supervision.
- Support acuity equipment used for direct patient care.
- Maintain familiarity with the healthcare environment and the clinical equipment, radiological, laboratory, and network medical systems supported.
- Apply basic knowledge of local and national safety regulatory issues.
- Resolve basic front-line customer service issues.
- Learn from others on the job and teach basic skills to new hires and interns.
