About The Position

Mercy Ships is a global faith-based charity that uses hospital ships to bring life-changing surgeries and transformational medical training to people in some of the most challenging contexts along the African coast. For over 40 years, Mercy Ships has been delivering lasting hope and healing through safe surgical care, while working alongside partners and stakeholders to strengthen local healthcare systems in more than 55 countries. This is an ONSITE, two year limited-term role that requires working on site at our Lindale, Texas location. The role supports New Ship AM2 Procurement activities, including coordination, planning, and procurement of current medical, dental, surgical, and ETA program needs. The activity is expected to continue through the Build and mid-point through the Equipping phases.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in phone skills and successful customer service attributes required to engage individual/companies to partner with the ministry.
  • Ability to collaborate with DMS staff to outline specific needs for equipment based on treatment and hospital needs.
  • Ability to work with CMMS systems to input data and create and run reports for medical equipment inventory.
  • Must be experienced in the operation of biomedical test equipment and able to perform testing and follow-up documentation including report generation. (Fluke)
  • Proficiency in video calls and phone skills and successful customer service attributes required to engage individual/companies to partner with the ministry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and graphics programs.
  • Proficiency in using the Internet as a tool for locating sources for equipment and parts.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and document work procedures.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry , including an understanding of hospital operations and medical equipment manufacturers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various departments.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 10 years of hospital experience as a biomedical technician and/or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.

  • Use of AIMS Biomedical Equipment Tracking Software (CMMS system) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Procure and orchestrate delivery and required vendor commissioning needed by Direct Medical Services (DMS). Research technical requirement for required equipment while engaging in and cultivating long term relationships with companies and individuals to promote efficient acquisition of equipment and parts as needed.
  • Provide technical consultation in areas where medical, dental or surgical equipment is used as it relates to requirements and specifications while maintaining medical equipment standardization for both the GLM and AFM II. This involves the Biomed team, clinical users and SMEs as needed to ensure equipment meets all requirements.
  • Make certain the accepted programs and policies are referenced to meet current expectations for both ships. This is required before any equipment can be procured.
  • Monitoring all equipment and parts-supply purchases including shipment tracking to the temporary NEW SHIP ISC warehouse.
  • Track all purchases that are coordinated with the EDC Warehouse logistics to ensure all items are delivered to Equipping when needed.
  • Inspect, unbox, test and verify all components are accounted for before sending to the AM2. Create and apply asset tags and fully register the equipment in the AIMS CMMS software.
  • Troubleshoot, problem-solve, and communicate with other AFM II project teams to deconflict the installation plans align with their deliveries and workspace plans.
  • Provide remote support for repair, installation, maintenance, calibration, modification, and inspection of delivered medical equipment during Build and Equipping.
  • Arrange for all vendor trips to the NEW SHIP both during the Build phase in China and Equipping. This includes acquiring quotations, developing SOW contracts, generation of JIRA tickets for purchase and coordination of required parts for this vendor activity.
  • Work closely with the Biomed Team to coordinate new and existing equipment inventories align with the finished plan for the commissioning phase.
  • Other duties as assigned.
