About The Position
CentraState Healthcare System is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I) for an entry-level role at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey. This position is responsible for performing basic maintenance, repairs, and calibration of medical equipment under general supervision. The BMET I plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability and functionality of medical technology, supporting patient care by maintaining safe and functional equipment across hospital and clinical environments. The role involves working under the guidance of a supervisor to develop the necessary knowledge and skills for more complex tasks and contributes to maintaining safe, functional, and available medical equipment for patients and caregivers.
Requirements
- Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET/EET) required OR Military training in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET) required.
- Familiarity with analog and digital electronic principles and theory.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and schematic drawings.
- Ability to build and set-up test circuits for specific tests and measurements.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated detailed instructions in writing and orally.
- Demonstrated computer skills required.
- Must be able to meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves
- Pursuing AAMI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.
- Internship or hands-on training in a hospital or healthcare environment preferred.
- 0-2 years of related experience in a clinical or technical setting.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) on basic medical equipment.
- Respond to service requests and perform routine repairs on medical devices.
- Assist in troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repair, and inspection activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, NFPA, FDA).
- Interact with clinical team members to understand equipment issues and provide technical support.
- Educate users on proper operation and basic troubleshooting when appropriate.
- Tag and inventory new equipment; assist with equipment installations and relocations.
- Maintain parts, hand tools and test equipment inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the workspace.
- Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs to develop technical skills.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and changes in medical equipment regulations.
- Collaborate with other team members, vendors, and clinical departments to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
- Prepare to assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities within 6 months of hire.
