About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dialysis Biomedical Technician (BMET) to join our team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - Julia Tutwiler Women's Prison in Wetumpka, AL. As a Correctional Dialysis Biomedical Technician (BMET), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to ensure the safety, repair, and maintenance of hemodialysis machines, water treatment systems, and ancillary equipment in the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must have experience maintaining and repairing Fresenius dialysis machines.
  • Must have experience maintaining and repairing dialysis water systems/reverse osmosis systems.
  • Strong electromechanical skills, understanding of hydraulic systems, and technical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Capability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods; often requires lifting items up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license is required for traveling between facilities.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate’s degree in biomedical technology or electronics is preferred.
  • BONENT certification is often preferred or required within a certain timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, schedule, and document preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on dialysis machines, water treatment systems (RO units), and related equipment.
  • Conduct regular checks for water/dialysate, including testing for total chlorine, pH, conductivity, and water hardness.
  • Ensure all equipment operates within manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, CMS, JCAHO).
  • Maintain meticulous records of repairs, inspections, and technical data in computerized systems.
  • Train clinical staff (nurses and patient care technicians) on proper equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Manage, order, and track service parts, tools, and equipment inventory.
