About The Position

This position is for a full-time preclinical faculty member with a terminal degree in one of the Biomedical Sciences disciplines. The position requires work in the areas of teaching, research and scholarly activity, service to the institution, and administrative duties in the form of course directing throughout the academic year. This faculty member will teach discipline specific biomedical science lectures in applicable courses within a framework of osteopathic principles and practices and Catholic bioethics to train and form SOM students for the application of basic science to the clinical setting. This position will also provide service to the SOM via committee work and student mentoring as well as participate in research and scholarly activity, and direct preclinical courses as assigned. The position will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in the School of Osteopathic Medicine based on qualifications and experience. Tenure is not awarded upon hire but will be awarded in accordance with the SOM Tenure and Promotion Policy.

Requirements

Terminal degree (DO, MD, PhD, EdD)
Minimum of 5 years full time, uninterrupted experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting
Demonstrated experience and evidence of productivity in medical education, research and scholarly activity and professional service.
Demonstrated experience in oversight, management, and evaluation of faculty and staff.
Good standing status with regulatory and governmental boards and agencies.
Eligible for SOM malpractice insurance, if applicable.
Active, unrestricted medical license (MD, DO)
Current AOA or ABMS Board Certification (MD, DO)

Responsibilities

Ensure and support mission alignment and achievement of SOM goals.
Function as a Co-Course Director with Clinical Sciences faculty member for Courses designated by the Chair of Biomedical Sciences.
Work with any applicable administrative staff supporting preclinical courses.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings, SOM meetings, and institutional meetings as necessary and scheduled.
Work with preclinical faculty, Chairs of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Associate Dean of Preclinical Curriculum, Associate Dean and Director of Mission to develop preclinical courses, syllabi, lecture sequencing and learning objectives.
Participate in the evaluation and decision-making process to choose optimal electronic platforms to facilitate curriculum delivery, assessments, curriculum mapping, and data analysis.
Provide lectures in discipline of specialty and facilitate interactive group discussions per mutually agreed upon number of hours.
Collaborate with BSOM preclinical faculty and leaders and faculty from other health science programs and departments to implement and participate in interprofessional experiences to advance interprofessional education and practice initiatives.
Work with preclinical faculty, Chair of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences and Associate Dean of Preclinical Curriculum to develop and implement novel curriculum delivery methodologies, including but not limited to case-based and team-based learning activities.
Collaborate with Assistant Dean of Research, Associate Dean of Medical Education, and students to continue and/or conduct research in areas of interest to advance osteopathic medicine and patient care.
Participate in assigned SOM-based and institutional committees per Chair of Biomedical Sciences.
Participate in student mentoring per assignment by the Chair of Biomedical Sciences.
