About The Position

The Biomedical Laboratory Manager oversees the daily operations of the Biomedical Research Building laboratories and related research support facilities. The position is responsible for laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, safety programs, inventory management, budget monitoring, and support of faculty, staff, and student researchers. The Biomedical Laboratory Manager serves as a key resource in maintaining an efficient, safe, and productive research environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed in laboratory and office environments with exposure to laboratory equipment, chemicals, and biological materials consistent with biomedical research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory safety programs and ensure compliance with institutional, territorial, and federal regulations.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, supplies, and procurement activities.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, calibration, and service records for laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain equipment and asset inventories.
  • Develop and implement laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Assist with laboratory onboarding and training of faculty, staff, students, and visiting researchers.
  • Monitor laboratory budgets and expenditures.
  • Coordinate waste management and hazardous materials handling in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits.
  • Maintain laboratory documentation, records, and compliance reports.
  • Support researchers by coordinating laboratory resources and scheduling equipment usage.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety personnel and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Supervise assigned laboratory personnel, student employees, and trainees.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
