About The Position

Maintains and assists in medical equipment management by installing, calibrating, repairing, and inspecting medical equipment. This role does not require direct patient care. The technician will inspect newly acquired medical devices and systems for safety and function, conduct performance assurance and electrical safety testing, and perform preventive/scheduled maintenance. They will also respond to equipment problems in clinical or research areas, troubleshoot and solve issues, and perform repairs to a component level. Participation in equipment evaluations, installations, and upgrades is expected, along with making periodic rounds to assess device operation. The technician will also instruct department staff on testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair procedures, and document all activities.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Biomedical Technician required
Experience as a biomedical technician (1-2 years preferred)
Demonstrates and understands the importance of interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with team members, front line staff and vendors.
Understands electrical and mechanical biomedical safety principles.
Ability to learn and perform maintenance and troubleshooting of medical devices involving appropriate test equipment and software diagnostic tools.
Ability to learn equipment maintenance, operating procedures, and repair procedures from training materials and courses.
Ability to use computer-based tools.

Responsibilities

Inspects newly acquired medical devices and systems for safety and function and attaches and assigns appropriate control numbers and labels to medical devices.
Conducts complete performance assurance and electrical safety testing.
Performs preventive/scheduled maintenance on medical devices as required.
Respond to medical equipment problems in clinical or research areas; evaluate, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
Performs equipment repairs to a level requiring generic test instrumentation or diagnostic software, e.g., to board or component level for electrical devices.
Participates in medical equipment evaluations, installations, and upgrades, including software revision.
Makes periodic rounds of assigned clinical areas to assess the operation of medical devices and systems.
Instructs department and other equipment technical staff on testing, calibration, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and medical equipment repair.
Documents inspections, repairs, maintenance procedures, and teaching activities.
