About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Bioengineering has an outstanding opportunity to join our team as a Biomedical Equipment Technician Trainee. In this role, you will test, calibrate, fabricate, repair, and maintain electronic and electro-mechanical equipment of limited complexity used in a patient care or medical/biological environment under direction functional supervision. The purpose of the training program is to prepare qualified graduate technicians for Biomedical Equipment Technician positions. The training program provides on the job experience utilizing the highly specialized principles of medical equipment maintenance. Upon successful completion of the training program the trainee will have the minimum level of technical knowledge, abilities, skills, and experience to qualify for the position of Biomedical Equipment Technician. Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) provides and supports information and communication systems and technology that facilitate quality patient care, progressive medical education, and innovative research. HCIS services University of Iowa Health Care by providing comprehensive, high-level support for patient care delivery, internal and external communication, technology innovation, medical education, and research. Creating and maintaining a positive, productive, and rewarding environment for information technology and communication staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a two year resident electronic technology trade school within the past five years.
  • Resume that clearly addresses how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Tests the performance and operating characteristics of medical electronic and electro­ mechanical equipment of limited complexity to ensure compliance with established performance and safety standards.
  • Documents the results of equipment safety/performance tests.
  • Diagnoses problems and performs corrective maintenance and/or calibration as required on medical electronic and electro-mechanical equipment of limited complexity.
  • Documents actions required to correct equipment malfunctions.
  • Orders parts and supplies as required in the maintenance and fabrication of medical electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Attends workshops, conferences and specialized training courses to keep abreast of the field.
  • Reads, studies, or reviews appropriate publications related to the field.
  • Attends and successfully completes required training courses such as: Infection Control, Fire Safety Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  • Studies such material as deemed appropriate by the Manager of Bioengineering Maintenance. This may include: Medical Terminology, Introduction To Biomedical Equipment Technology, Essential Standards for Biomedical Equipment Safety and Performance, The College of Medicine and UI Health Care departmental organizational structure.
