About The Position

This is a BMET III role primarily focused on field work across various locations in Morristown and other North Central and Northern NJ areas. The position requires advanced skills and experience in healthcare technology, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and serve as a trainer for junior staff and interns. The role may also involve a BMET lead capacity. The technician will be responsible for understanding and working with medical equipment systems, devices, medical PCs, peripherals, medical network hardware, and clinical network applications. A strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology, with an emphasis on clinical application and troubleshooting, is essential. The role involves following manufacturer procedures for preventive maintenance, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification for all types of medical equipment, including high-risk items. Responsibilities include repairing, installing, and calibrating complex medical equipment, using various hand tools and test equipment. The technician will also inform supervisors of repair status, inspections, unusual situations, and customer concerns, and will manage subcontractors and vendors to ensure proper service delivery and documentation. Continuous development of biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education is expected. The role requires a detailed understanding and ability to communicate the use of supported devices, providing advanced support for medical equipment critical to direct patient care. Knowledge of the daily operations of supported departments (hospital, clinic, offsite locations) and experience in the assigned clinical environment are necessary. The technician must be prepared for 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities and maintain current advanced understanding of the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), The Joint Commission, NFPA, and other regulatory agency standards. Evaluating the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database, including inventory, PM schedules, nomenclature, and service history, is crucial. Ensuring service completion and timely, accurate documentation submission is required, as is reviewing documentation from BMET 2 and BMET 1 staff. The ability to resolve complex customer service issues, complaints, and escalated issues from junior staff, and to interact with customers in a timely manner, is essential. The role involves eliciting information from customers for troubleshooting and support, and developing positive relationships with department representatives, leadership, and senior leadership. Knowledge of clinical equipment systems (laboratory, networked, connected medical equipment) and project management terms and methods is also required.

Requirements

  • Fully experienced with an advanced skill set or knowledge in healthcare technology.

  • Possesses understanding and skills related to medical equipment systems and devices.
  • Possesses understanding of medical PCs, peripherals, medical network hardware and clinical network applications.
  • Significant working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology with emphasis in clinical application and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to follow manufacturer's procedures for preventive maintenance inspection, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification procedures on medical equipment including but not limited to all non-high risk and high-risk medical equipment.
  • Exhibits understanding and can demonstrate use of all required hand tools and test equipment for medical equipment, including but not limited to digital multi meter, electrical safety analyzer, pressure measuring gauges, ESU analyzer, defibrillator tester, patient simulator and infusion pump tester.
  • Develop and maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education.
  • Exhibits a detailed understanding and can fully communicate the use of devices supported.
  • Possesses understanding of the daily operations of the departments supported (hospital, clinic, offsite locations, etc.).
  • Possesses experience in their assigned clinical environment.
  • Must maintain current advanced understanding of Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), The Joint Commission, NFPA and other regulatory agencies' standards.
  • Can review BMET 2 and BMET 1 documentation for the same.
  • Can successfully resolve complex customer service issues, complaints and escalated issues from BMET 2 and BMET 1.
  • Demonstrates the ability to elicit information from customers as needed for troubleshooting and general support.
  • Possesses knowledge of clinical equipment systems (laboratory systems, networked medical equipment systems, connected medical equipment etc.).
  • Possesses knowledge of project management terms and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field work for various locations around Morristown and other North Central and Northern NJ locations.

  • Inform supervisors of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual medical equipment situations, and any customer concerns.
  • Work with, direct and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery and vendor documentation.
  • Develop and maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Provide advanced support of non high-risk and high-risk medical equipment for direct patient care.
  • Prepare to assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities.
  • Maintain current advanced understanding of Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), The Joint Commission, NFPA and other regulatory agencies' standards.
