About The Position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I will perform entry-level maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of basic medical equipment within clinical environments, ensuring optimal performance and patient safety. This role requires the candidate to work onsite at our customer location. To provide onsite customer support, the candidate needs to be willing to work in the Andalusia AL area.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field; OR equivalent military education; OR a participant in the formal GE HealthCare Biomedical or Field Engineer Services Internship, Apprenticeship or Military Externship program; OR High School Diploma/GED and a minimum 2 years of experience servicing electrical, electronics, IT or mechanical equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools and test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to be available after-hours and/or work a rotating on-call schedule, including weekends.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a healthcare or technical service environment is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of electronics, mechanical systems, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, Joint Commission) related to medical devices is desirable.
  • Previous team lead or leadership experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute routine preventative maintenance and safety inspections on a variety of medical devices, including but not limited to patient monitors, infusion pumps, and basic diagnostic equipment, following established protocols.
  • Evaluate basic customer biomedical equipment issues, implement appropriate repairs, and as assigned, perform PM and safety/environmental inspections.
  • Perform minor repairs and component replacements under direct supervision or using detailed service manuals and schematics.
  • May assist more experienced technicians on basic and more complex repairs/resolution.
  • Document all maintenance, repair, and calibration activities accurately and promptly in the designated asset management system.
  • Calibrate equipment to manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Respond to and resolve basic equipment malfunctions reported by clinical staff.
  • Maintain daily communications with customers as directed, to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to strong customer relations and ongoing customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance technical skills and knowledge of new medical technologies.
  • Adhere to all company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards, including those related to infection control and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure proper care of tools and test equipment.
