About The Position

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify. Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Specialist Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs biomedical and clinical equipment to ensure safe, compliant, mission-ready patient care operations. Supports medical readiness through preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, inspections, documentation, and lifecycle sustainment planning across clinics, hospitals, and fielded medical environments.

Requirements

  • Completion of BMET training and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience in biomedical electronics, clinical equipment maintenance, or electronics technology.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance on a wide range of medical devices within clinical or operational environments.
  • Working knowledge of medical equipment safety practices, documentation standards, and regulated maintenance programs.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and clinical device workflows.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate written documentation and maintenance status reports.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field
  • Completion of a DoD BMET training program
  • Experience supporting DoD or federal healthcare environments, including Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), DHA, Army medical units, and shipboard or expeditionary medical operations.
  • Experience with dental equipment installation and servicing and/or imaging and connected-care devices, such as point-of-care ultrasound and endoscopy video systems.
  • Familiarity with accreditation readiness activities and compliance audits, including Joint Commission and AAAHC standards.
  • Prior supervisory or lead technician experience, including mentoring and training junior personnel.
  • Relevant certifications or apprenticeships, such as Electromedical Equipment Repairer, Electronics Tester, or Dental Equipment Installer/Servicer certifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, calibration, and electrical safety testing in accordance with OEM specifications and applicable standards.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and complete corrective maintenance; verify performance and return equipment to service.
  • Document all maintenance actions within applicable maintenance and logistics systems, ensuring accuracy of work orders, parts usage, and equipment history records.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to minimize equipment downtime and maintain continuity of patient care.
  • Evaluate and execute actions related to recalls, hazard alerts, Medical Materiel Quality Control Messages, field change orders, and health device alerts (e.g., FDA/ECRI notices).
  • Support equipment lifecycle management activities, including replacement recommendations, sustainment planning, and end-of-life disposition in accordance with established policies.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior BMET personnel and support maintenance shop workflow management, as assigned.
  • Utilize maintenance and logistics platforms such as DMLSS, JMAR, GCSS-A, LMP, and TEWLS.
  • Monitor and respond to safety and alert notifications from sources including ECRI and FDA notices.
  • Use KPI/LMI dashboards and reporting tools to support sustainment performance management and operational readiness.
  • Perform work within clinical environments, maintenance shops, and occasional warehouse or field settings.
  • Lift and carry standard test equipment and medical devices; use hand tools; and perform tasks requiring bending, standing, and working in confined spaces, as necessary.
  • Travel locally between supported facilities and occasionally travel for field support activities or OEM coordination, as required.
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support based on mission or operational requirements.
  • Prepare maintenance status reports, trend analyses, and failure analyses to support leadership decision-making and readiness reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, risk management, and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission and AAAHC standards, as applicable.
  • Coordinate vendor and OEM service support when repairs exceed in-house capabilities; validate completed vendor work and ensure proper documentation closeout.
  • Support medical device integration readiness efforts, including inventory validation, compatibility assessments, cybersecurity coordination, and connectivity planning for enterprise EHR environments such as MHS GENESIS.
  • Maintain accountability of tools, test equipment, and bench stock; ensure all test equipment calibration requirements remain current.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
