About The Position

An experienced BioMedical Equipment Technician with at least 6 years’ experience. The BMET III possesses in depth knowledge in a particular aspect of medical equipment, as well as vast experience in all phases of medical instrumentation. The BMET III has an understanding of the clinical aspects and work flow of a hospital, and is able to understand medical equipment’s role in this flow. He/She is able to suggest improvements to the work flows and equipment usage to facilitate increased safety, productivity, or improved working conditions. The BMET III is fully independent, able to respond to any calls in the hospital, whether in his/her specific areas of expertise or not, because of intense general training, customer service skills, general knowledge of all medical devices, and the knowledge of safety in all areas. In experienced enough to know when to call for help and will not overstep his/her abilities.

Requirements

  • Electronic fundamentals, including basic electricity - DC and AC, Active devices, Transducers, Digital devices, Microprocessors, Troubleshooting techniques, and Electrical Safety in Healthcare.
  • General Human Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology.
  • Six to 15 (6 - 15) years experience working in BioMedical Engineering in the support of medical equipment. Experience may be general in nature, or may reflect specialization in a particular aspect of medical equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Up to 15 years experience working in a hospital setting, either in BioMedical Engineering, or a clinical, area, such a clinical lab, surgery, or radiology department.
  • ICC Certification as a CBET, CLES, or CRES is highly preferred, and required within 1 year of entry into this job

Responsibilities

  • Repairs medical equipment to return same to manufacturer’s original specifications.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance on a wide variety of medical equipment.
  • Performs Clinical Support related to the operation and safe use of medical devices.
  • Performs incoming inspection of newly received medical equipment, completing necessary paperwork to enter item into computer system, assign maintenance procedures, and document his/her time and activities.
  • Participates in a hospital-wide after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Suggests operational improvements to medical equipment usage.
  • May supervise other BMET IIIs, BMET IIs or BMET Is in areas of specialty training.
  • Orders repair parts and supplies, as needed.
  • Provides inservice education to clinicians and junior technicians regarding equipment use and safety.
  • Coordinates and oversees the activities of outside service vendors.
  • Assists in, or performs incident investigations.
  • Performs design modifications of medical equipment, as approved by manufacturers or Department Director.
  • Assists more senior technicians in a wide variety of duties.
  • Maintains a helpful / professional attitude toward hospital staff, patients, physicians or other clients.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions or employee/patient/visitor injury to Manager.
