About The Position

Under the supervision of the Clinical Engineering Manager, performs preventive maintenance, calibration, equipment repair, troubleshooting, and safety inspections of biomedical equipment as a generalist. Provides basic repair and maintenance on a wide range of medical equipment. This is an entry-level position with no supervisory responsibility. The role involves diagnosing and isolating medical electronic systems problems, providing device repair, and using technical ability to perform corrective action or escalate issues. It also includes troubleshooting and repairing medical instrumentation, identifying network connectivity and device interface connections, and performing electrical safety, functional testing, physical inspection, and scheduled parts replacement for preventive maintenance. The technician will document all equipment-related work in the Department’s Equipment Maintenance Database accurately and in real-time, maintain required records, and perform incoming inspection and installation of medical equipment. They will use knowledge of patient medical equipment operations, instruct clinical personnel in proper usage, and stay current with equipment knowledge. Ordering necessary parts and supplies, coordinating repairs, and escalating issues are also key duties. The technician may provide technical information regarding device service history and common failures. They will use department-supplied tools, test equipment, supplies, and communication devices. This is a full-time, day shift role reporting onsite.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED
0 years of experience with an Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree OR 2+ years of experience with no college degree

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

Diagnoses and isolates medical electronic systems problems to the subsystem, module and functional unit.
Provides device repair including but not limited to external device troubleshooting, configuration & settings, power supply, and/or module level.
Uses technical ability to perform corrective action or escalate issues to manager and higher skilled technicians as appropriate.
Troubleshoots and repairs medical instrumentation.
Identifies physical connections for network connectivity and device interfaces.
Performs electrical safety, functional testing, physical inspection, and scheduled parts replacement for the appropriate preventive maintenance on medical equipment in accordance to the OEM’s (original equipment manufacturers) recommendations and/or department policy.
Documents all equipment related work in Department’s Equipment Maintenance Database, accurately and in real time.
Maintains all required records (paper or electronic) including maintaining records in Biomed and other hospital systems (ie. St.Croix , Mobilview, CareEverywhere, etc.), as required.
Performs incoming inspection and installation of medical equipment as assigned by the Clinical Engineering Manager.
Uses Knowledge of the operations of patient medical equipment commonly used throughout the hospital and instructs clinical personnel in the proper usage and application of medical equipment.
Attends and participates in all department meetings, huddles, trainings, and in-services including factory based training for hospital owned devices.
Stays current with knowledge of patient related equipment commonly used throughout the hospital.
Orders necessary parts and supplies needed for equipment maintenance.
Coordinates repairs with internal departments and/or external service providers, as required.
Escalates issues including system-wide issues, to the manager, on-call manager, and other internal and external team members as appropriate.
May be called upon to provide technical information regarding device service history, common failures experienced, ease of serviceability, or vendor service experience.
Uses department supplied tools, test equipment, supplies, and communication devices for conducting hospital business as per policy.
