The Biomedical Engineering Director is responsible for implementing programs to maintain and direct the functions of the Biomedical Engineering department across Keck Medical Center of USC, OPSC, Norris Cancer Hospital, and Ambulatory clinics. This role fosters a safe and healthy campus environment, provides proactive and responsive testing and repairs of all Biomedical equipment, and ensures service and maintenance are completed and documented properly for regulatory and financial compliance. The Director anticipates and meets the needs of the hospital, performs routine, complex, and specialized tasks, and works with the Associate Administrator to prepare the annual department budget and track costs. The position manages the effectiveness of management practices, assures the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and assesses resource utilization. The Director prepares and submits reports, oversees the maintenance of all medical equipment, and assists with diagnosis and correction of systems and equipment malfunctions. They ensure clinical equipment meets specified requirements, notify user departments of repair status, and assist with applications and regulatory inspections. The role serves on relevant committees, evaluates staff qualifications, designs orientation programs, and ensures compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements. The Director develops, implements, and modifies programs for biomedical equipment maintenance, serves as a resource to hospital employees, and maintains all required department records. They establish preventative maintenance schedules, prioritize repair work, and assure accurate documentation of service. The Director maintains administrative and regulatory records, ensures departments understand and report contracted preventative maintenance, and utilizes the CMMS for accurate inventory and service records. Performance improvement and monitor reports are submitted regularly. The Director maintains a professional appearance, prepares payroll in the absence of supervisors, establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities, and provides for staff training and continuing education. They manage the effective operation of the department's CMMS, ensure data accuracy, and provide recommendations for system improvements. The Director assists with the management of maintenance agreements, makes recommendations for new purchases and renewals, and ensures employees understand their roles in emergencies. They ensure cleanliness and infection prevention practices are followed and manage the integration of department services. Other related tasks and duties are assigned as required.
