About The Position

This internship project focuses on Compound Imaging Development and Optimization for ATUSA Image Quality Enhancement. Compound imaging involves reconstructing images from multiple insonification angles. The project aims to develop and optimize these techniques for the ATUSA 3D breast ultrasound system to address limitations in current reconstruction, specifically reducing seam artifacts, improving continuity, and mitigating shadowing effects. The intern will also establish a framework for robust signal recovery in low-visibility regions and prepare compound imaging methods for integration into the reconstruction pipeline.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Biomedical/Electrical Engineering
  • Python and image processing experience
  • Strong interest in medical imaging

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing ATUSA datasets to characterize seam lines, shadowing, and signal dropouts.
  • Implement methods combining multiple angular views, exploring averaging, weighted blending, and directional compounding.
  • Reconstruct shadowed regions using alternative angular data.
  • Improve continuity across frame boundaries using compounding.
  • Use/modify current apps/algorithms to improve the image quality of the final compound images.
  • Measure signal recovery, consistency, and image quality improvements.
  • Assess feasibility for real-time implementation and define requirements.
  • Provide visual results, reports, and recommendations.
